ST-J-BAPTIST CHURCH (KOSTOL SV J KRSTITEL'A)

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is a Catholic church of the uniate rite, the confession of the Ruthenes. It was built between 1753 and 1754 and elevated to the rank of a cathedral in 1881. This makes Prešov the religious and cultural capital of this minority, which is present throughout the north-eastern part of Slovakia. In the crypt of the church are buried the bishops and famous personalities of this rite. Inside, the richly decorated iconostasis (1846) is interesting.
