An admirable castle in ruins dominates the village of Plaveč. It was built in the 12th century, owned by the Crown until the 14th century, then changed owners several times. It was the scene of violent clashes with the Hussites. At the beginning of the 17th century, Juraj Horváth-Paločay modified it in a Renaissance style. Victim of a fire in 1856, it has since remained in a state of ruins. It is used for cultural events in summer.
