LYCEUM

Kežmarok's first municipal school dates back to 1383-1392. Kežmarok Evangelical High School is a cultural monument rich in history, built at the end of the 18th century, and today houses a library with more than 150,000 rare and ancient volumes, including 55 illuminated incunabula of great beauty. Many Slovak intellectuals and scientists of the 18th and 19th centuries studied in this school. At that time, Kežmarok High School was one of four such institutions in Slovakia, a prerequisite for university.
