Located south of the castle hill, the late Baroque sculptures of the Immaculate Conception were erected to commemorate the plague epidemics that decimated the city and the country between 1710 and 1739. During this period, about a quarter of the city's inhabitants died. Bishop Imrich Esterházi had these columns erected in 1750 and they were the work of an Austrian sculptor. This emblematic monument of the city was restored on April 29, 2008.
