SYNAGOGUE (SYNAGÓGA)

This majestic synagogue, built in 1913, has Byzantine and Art Nouveau influences. It is no longer in use, as Trenčin's Jewish community now numbers fewer than 200 members, whereas in 1942 it represented a quarter of the population. During the Second World War, Jews were driven to the death camps by members of the local Nazi organization. Today, it is undergoing renovation, and will eventually become a cultural center with various spaces, including an exhibition on Jewish culture.
