Located a few kilometres south of Ajaccio, Clos Capitoro was created in the 19th century by a clergyman who ran this farm dedicated to polyculture. The Clos Capitoro (from the Latin Tête de bulle) was first bottled in 1856. Today, the 50-hectare estate of vines planted on granitic slopes with clay-siliceous soil benefits from the influence of thermal winds and cool nights. The estate is cultivated by Jacques Bianchetti, the current owner, who is now supported by his two daughters, Eloise and Melissa. Typical Corsican grape varieties are grown here: nielluccio and grenache for red wines and vermentino for white wines. An ardent defender of sciaccerello, a very concentrated black grape variety, Jacques Bianchetti strives to extract the best from this southern plant which gives wines with a spicy character. Its very characteristic peppery nose produces long-lasting wines with remarkable balance and aromas of raspberries and blackcurrants. A visit to the winery and its elegant stagecoach relay is a must on the way out of Porticcio on the road to Sartene
