Beneath a 16th-century religious building at the far end of a charming piazza, archaeological excavations have revealed a veritable millefeuille of history: Roman baths, an early Christian church, the church of San Pietro a Corte founded in the 8th century by the Lombard king Arechi and, finally, a 13th-century communal palace. The remains can be viewed from a footbridge. It's not easy to read the different strata, but the remains of beautiful 12th-century frescoes are worth noting.
