VILLA DEI PAPIRI
Sumptuous villa of Pison, Julius Caesar's father-in-law, featuring a library with a collection of charred papyri
Those who can manage to visit the site will discover only a small part of this immense villa, unearthed in the 18th century and still being excavated (last campaign in 2009). It is said that this sumptuous construction belonged to Pison, Julius Caesar's father-in-law. His library has returned a collection of 1,800 charred papyri, including previously unknown Greek texts, notably on Epicurean philosophy. The exceptional collection of bronze and marble sculptures discovered there is on display at the Naples Museum.
