Covered theater for musical auditions, mime shows and poetry declamations
Next to the "Great Theatre", the "Small Theatre" or odeon is a covered theatre dedicated to musical performances, poetic declamations and mime shows. Well preserved, it was built during the first years of Sylla's colony (80 BC), by the duumvirs of Pompeii, i.e. the two "mayors" of the city. With a capacity of 1,300 spectators, it was equipped with a roof, which ensured an excellent acoustic. Note, at the ends of the cavea, at the base of the walls, the atlantes sculpted in the tufa.

Acoustique exceptionnelle
Ce petit théâtre est à taille humaine et son acoustique exceptionnelle, surtout quand on parle au niveau du point central qui permet à la voix de porter dans tout le théâtre.

Nice small odeon. I love the statues on the bottom on the sides of the seats. Unfortunately they are without top but they seem winged sfinx
