CASA DEL MENANDRO
It owes its name to the painted portrait of the Greek comic author that adorns a niche in the peristyle. In addition to the frescoed atrium and peristyle, this vast Roman domus had private baths, a servile quarters, stables and a garage for the cisium (two-wheeled chariot)! 118 pieces of silverware have been found here, and are now on display at the Naples Archaeological Museum. Its last owner belonged to the gens Poppei, a powerful Pompeian family, and was therefore a relative of Poppea, wife of Emperor Nero.
