Cathedral with Corinthian columns built on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the emperor Augustus.
The Cathedral of Pozzuoli was founded in the5th-6th centuries on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the Emperor Augustus, and was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th century. The remains of the temple were discovered after a devastating fire in 1964. Its monumental Corinthian columns are now visible. The church houses an Adoration by Artemisia Gentileschi and paintings by Luca Giordano. The composer G. B. Pergolesi (Pergolesi) is buried here.
