CHURCH OF SAINT PETER AND PAUL (CHRÁM SV. PETRA A PAVLA)
Petit Futé's opinion on CHURCH OF SAINT PETER AND PAUL (CHRÁM SV. PETRA A PAVLA)
It is a Gothic church of the th century built on the remains of a Romanesque church. His high tower is particularly remarkable. You can visit its crypt, which served as a ossuary in the th century when the plague raged. The adjacent cemetery had become too small and it was impossible to enlarge it. The skulls and bones followed up until the 1770 s, then the graves were carried in another cemetery in the city. Today there are still the skeletons of 10 000, maybe 15 000 people. They were placed in such a way as to represent the image of an anchor and a heart, symbols of hope and love.
