Situated 17 km south of the city, towards Samariapo, you can reach Cerro Pintado (painted hill) also known under the equally evocative name of Piedra Pintada. This mass of granite presents the interest of being covered with petroglyphs that Humboldt studied (handwriting engraved in stone), précolombiens remains, some of which are the largest in the country. They have been assessed for 5 000 years. To go early in the morning provides good light.
