The airport is located 5 km south of Jinghong, 15 minutes from the urban bus centre (2 RMB).

There is also an airport in Simao, a small town north of Jinghong. Sometimes travellers go down to make a part of the journey between Kunming and Jinghong by bus.

Jinghong is 45 minutes from Kunming (more than 10 flights per day) and 50 minutes from Dali (1 to 2 flights per day, 900 RMB). It is relatively easy to get a flight to get there even the day before (outside the Water Water Festival in April, when flights are «surbookés» by Chinese tourists). International connections to Bangkok and Chiang Mai are currently interrupted, but may be repeated from day to day.
