BUILDINGS OF RICARDO BOFIL
A remarkable architectural complex near Calpe.
Located 1.5 kilometers south of Calpe, they are grouped under the terminology "Urbanisación la Manzanera" and their access is signposted from the city. Breaking with the classic visual of the white houses of the Costa Blanca, this complex consists of three complementary spaces.
The red fortification. All red and pink as its name suggests, this building created in 1972 evokes the tradition of the casbash,
with a succession of corridors, terraces, staircases and patios comununicating with each other. Its architecture also plays with and adapts to the topography of the cliff on which it is built.Xanadú. Built between 1966 and 1968, this second complex was an experimental prototype of the garden city, inscribing itself in space, with a connection between the different plans by ramps and stairs. Its visual reference is twofold, that of the castle of Calpe but also the rock of Ifach. In the end
, a cubic shape adorned with balustrades and curved roofs that gives the whole a majestic appearance.The amphitheater. Built between 1983 and 1985, this third complex is located on the top of the cliff, which gives it a magnificent view of the sea and the Ifach rock. It consists of 27 luxury houses, a common pool and several solariums. The whole complex is modeled as a classical amphitheater, with the pool occupying the place used in Greek tradition as a "stage and theater" and extending to the cliff.
