FÊTES DES MOROS Y CRISTIANOS

The Moros y Cristianos celebrations commemorate the Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula by the Christians. They are celebrated mainly in the province of Alicante, but also in some cities of Murcia, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia. The celebrations in Alcoy, dedicated to Saint George, are the most famous in Spain. Since the 16th century, a huge battle has taken place every year, with thousands of people taking part in it in costume.
