CITADEL AND MUSEUM
The walls of the citadel date back to the th and th centuries. The oldest parts were built in the th century. The walls would last over 6 km in length, and were pierced by seven doors. You can climb on the most recent walls but beware by taking photos: the citadel is always used as a military base, and soldiers have a real phobia of cameras.
The small archaeology museum was founded in 1996 to celebrate the 2 500 years of the town of Khojand. It houses exhibits from excavations from 1870 onwards in the Khojand region. A model allows to see the architecture of the bazaar and its mosque in the th century. Some interesting photos show the city at the end of the 2 500 th and early th, and also allow a glimpse of what was the celebrations of the th anniversary…
