CHIESA DI SAN PIETRO

Situated on top of one of the three hills overlooking the Roman site, this church offers a magnificent view of the Fucino plain, which was once a lake before being drained and becoming the granary of Rome. It is built on an ancient temple dedicated to Apollo, but its current structure dates back to the ^13th century. Various restoration works and restructurations have taken place over the centuries. The main interest of the building are its two works of the Roman marble Cosmati of the ^XII and ^XIII centuries and their splendid mosaics.
