CHIESA SANTA MARIA AD CRYPTAS

A jewel of medieval art in Abruzzo, the church of Santa Maria ad Cryptas is worth a visit. Don't be fooled by its rather simple exterior: its interior is impressive. When you enter this small church, you feel like you are in the middle of a comic book. The walls are covered with frescoes dating, on one side from the ^XIIth century, on the other from the ^XIVth. Some of these frescoes would have served as sources of inspiration to Dante for his Divine Comedy.
