For small scholarships, Il Grattacielo is a dream address. With the help of the boy standing behind the counter, we compose the dish of his choice: hams and sausages, various salads, ribollita, pici, typical cheeses, all accompanied by anchovies, olives and various seasonings... The prices are derisory! So we have to rush there because the food is disappearing at high speed! A simple place, made of simple things, but always characterized by a friendly atmosphere and good cuisine.

Se siete a siena dovete gustare i piatti tipici di questa vera osteria Toscana. Ottimi salumi primi e secondi il tutto in un clima che vi coinvolgerà.

L'esperienza di un pasto al grattacielo è prima di tutto voglia di ricerca sociologica, mi spiego meglio: nel cuore di Siena un luogo del genere é stato prima il centro di incontro di generazioni di persone, dagli studenti che si concedevano una pausa dove ristoravano la fame di sapere....ai professionisti che abitavano la città una volta ed i banchieri del Monte dei Paschi...
Oggi, come ieri ci ritroviamo coi sapori di un tempo tramandati da Duilio e Maria Pia, storici gestori, la genuinità degli ingredienti e tanta simpatia.
Dunque luogo unico ed inimitabile!

The place is in all Siena lists and recommendations. So, it turned out to be a must visit for us. But our experience was quite disappointing.
The food is just not tasty at all. To get overcooked pici in a traditional osteria is something hard to find. Three burnt until unrecognizable taste pieces of so-called meat for 12 euros does not also enter in the concept of simple, honest food.

It seems like the place got its worthy fame under a previous owner whose photos still decorate the place. He evidently served predominantly drinks that can hardly disappoint and ready salami&formaggio accompaniment also hard to spoil. IMHO this place to go on well should get back to the same strategy.
