Palazzo Comunale that houses one of the four museums of the city, the Civic Museum of Ancient Art, in Pistoia.
Built in the 13th century, the municipal palace bears on its façade the Medici coat of arms surmounted by the black marble head of the King of Majorca, who was defeated by the captain of Pistoia, Grandonio de' Ghisilieri, during the Balearic War (1113-1115). It houses the Sala Maggiore, where the Council of Elders used to meet, bringing together the great families of the city. It also houses one of the city's four museums, the Civic Museum of Ancient Art (13th to 20th century).
