MOSQUÉE ORTA
This Ottoman mosque (Орта Џамија) was erected between 1613 and 1614. Closed to worship and visits, it was the subject of major excavations during the 2010s. It is indeed on the site of an ancient temple (probably dedicated to Artemis), an eleventh-century church and a thirteenth-century necropolis. The municipality plans to transform the building into a heritage museum. Almost opposite is the former Ottoman post office built in the nineteenth century and renovated in 2010. It is open on request to the museum of Strumica.
