In Eastern Macedonia, the town of Strumica organizes the country's biggest carnival, with beautiful masks and fireworks.

First mentioned in 1670, this carnival (Струмички Карневал/Strumički Karneval) is renowned for its participants wearing beautiful masks as well as for its fireworks. It takes place in Strumica's central square from Saturday to Tuesday, at the start of the Great Orthodox Lent: March 16, 2024, March1, 2025, February 21, 2026, March 13, 2027, etc. In July, the Strumica Open Festival (facebook.com/StrumicaOpenFestival) is held in the same town, featuring rock, pop and traditional Balkan music.
