Erected in 1967, this handsome stone monument (Споменик Загинатите Градители на ХЕЦ Маврово/Spomenik Zaginatite Graditeli na HEC Mavrovo) pays tribute to the 52 workers who died in an avalanche on February 11, 1956, while working on the construction of the Mavrovo lake dam. Created by Macedonian sculptor Boro Krstevski (1931-2007), the work depicts a worker drilling a stone pillar with a jackhammer, his right leg stretched dramatically backwards.
