SOIRÉES OPÉRA DE MAI

Created in 1972, this festival (Мајски Оперски Вечери/Majski Operski Večeri) takes place in Skopje, in the beautiful futuristic building of the National Opera. After an opening ceremony in the adjoining garden, around May 9, operas by great composers (Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Bizet...) are performed by the philharmonic orchestra and choir of the National Opera and Ballet. The festival traditionally concludes on May 31 with a performance of Verdi'sAida. As the main auditorium seats only 800, tickets must be reserved well in advance.
