CONCATTEDRALE SAN SIRO
The oldest church of San Remo in baroque style preserving the interesting Black Crucifix.
This is Sanremo's oldest church (12thcentury ) and one of the earliest examples of Romanesque art on the Ponente Riviera. Built on surviving early Christian remains, the building was remodeled in Baroque style in the 17thcentury . In the 19thcentury , it was restored to its original appearance. The exterior is rather classical, but the interior is well worth a visit. The church features a large15th-century crucifix, known as the "Black Christ", to which the city of Sanremo's victory over the Saracens in 1543 is attributed. The church is dedicated to Saint Syr of Genoa.
