MUSEO D'ARTE ORIENTALE

Inaugurated in 2001, in a palace behind the Piazza Unità d'Italia, the museum was built up thanks to rich donors from Triest. The collection of Asian arts is spread over 4 floors, with as many clearly defined sections. The first section introduces the commercial and cultural relations between Trieste and the Far East in the 18th and 19th centuries, the ^second exhibits Buddhist sculptures, the ^third deals with handicrafts (textiles, ceramics, porcelain, precious stones), and the ^fourth deals more specifically with the arts in Imperial Japan.
