Black Head is the most northwestern point of the Burren County, a limestone point devoid of any vegetation that plunges right into the ocean. Nearby, amidst a vast expanse of limestone slabs, is a circular Iron Age fort. The climb to Cathair Dhun Iorais is a wonderful experience, but quite difficult and the weather conditions are often bad. But it offers an exceptional panorama on the Aran Islands. Finally, 5 kilometers south of Black Head is the very nice beach of Fanore, where surfers sometimes come to test the waves that roll in.
