A charming archipelago to visit, made up of two private islands, one of Europe's largest nature reserves for birds.
The Saltee Islands are made up of two islands: Great Saltee (the only one open to visitors) and Little Saltee. It is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Europe (with hundreds of species, including the famous puffins). The best time to visit is during the nesting season from late spring to early summer. If you are lucky, you may also see seals and dolphins. Be aware that the islands are private, Great Saltee is inhabited by a family, so it is impossible to stay there and the stopover is limited to between 11:30 and 16:30.
