Kwandang is an uneventful little town, with smiling peasants and scruffy policemen staring at you with eyes darkened by their lowered visors. In their gardens, the men open coconuts to recover the flesh which, once dried in the sun, will be sold to be transformed into coconut oil. Kwandang is also a port bathed by the Celebes Sea, opposite the Philippines. Nearby, the Fort Orange site stands out for its unique architecture, built from marine materials including various coral rocks. At the heart of the fort are the remains of a bastion that stretches all the way to the sea.
