San Pedro's pretty, secluded beaches: Menola, Ouro, Roc-Béréby, Toubaré, Tohoulou, la pointe de Taki, Monogaga...

The coast around San Pedro boasts a number of pretty, secluded and wild beaches, often requiring a 4x4 to get to (but not all of them, ask around). Among the most beautiful beaches are the smaller ones: Menola, Ouro, Roc-Béréby, Toubaré, Boubélé, Sekreké, Tohoulou. The larger ones include

Taki Point. Approx. 27 km from San Pedro by land (approx. 10 km from San Pedro on the Grand-Béréby road, then, after the village of Baba, 15 km of track to reach the sea). It juts out into the sea some ten kilometers west of the Digboué lagoon, creating a large, totally protected bay of clear water, ideal for peaceful bathing.

Monogaga Beach. The wonder of wonders, the mythical Côte d'Ivoire bay praised by Meiway in the song of the same name, this is considered the most beautiful and sheltered beach on the west coast. Located around 35 km from San Pedro on the road to Abidjan (including 11 km of dirt track after the Monogaga crossroads), the bay's long waves make it an exceptional spot for surfers in heavy swells. It is reputed to be home to one of the largest baobabs in West Africa, measuring no less than 7 m in diameter! But getting there is a real expedition. 4x4 required. The track is very sandy and rutted (bet on a two-hour journey, and if it's raining, forget it).

Magnifique
