Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire's largest city, is a lively and diverse tourist destination. However, it is important to exercise caution due to the high level of crime. The majority of crimes against foreigners are non-violent situational crimes, such as pickpocketing or theft of unattended property. Particular vigilance is recommended in the communes of Abobo, Adjamé, Treichville, Yopougon and Attacoubé, where crime levels are higher. It is also advisable to avoid driving at night in these communes. We advise against crossing the Charles-de-Gaulle, Henri-Konan-Bédié and Félix-Houphouet-Boigny bridges on foot, even during the day, due to the risk of assault. It is also advisable to avoid walking in the Plateau commune after offices and shops have closed. In the evening, it's important to be extra vigilant in party areas such as Zone 4, where nightclubs, restaurants and maquis are located, due to the higher risk of assault.
