CITY GATES
Alba Iulia has six doors. Three give access to the low city and three (which are the most beautiful) to the high city.
First door. Located at the bottom of the mountain, it has the form of a triumphal arch of classical style. The number of entries is three, all separated by large stone pillars. The building has three parts. The floor is rich in baroque style sculptures. At the centre is a pedestal where the imperial arms of the Austrian house are included: a two-legged eagle wearing the sword and the scepter.
Second door. This entry was obstructed at the beginning of the th century. Only two stone pillars remain from this monument. The sculptures that adorned the building are now visible at the national museum of the Union.
Third door. This is the most impressive because of its dimensions and its ornaments. It is a double arc of triumph. Four pillars support the ark which overcomes the three entries.
