This fortress-church, one of the most beautiful in Transylvania, was built between the 13th and 16th centuries by the Teutonic Knights and the Saxons. The main enclosure is circular, with walls 3 to 4 m thick! It comprises more than 270 cells, each of which belonged to a family from the village. Spread over 4 levels and connected by wooden stairs, they were used to store food. A parapet walk, 12 m high, allows you to walk around the structure. The Gothic church in the centre of the fortress dates from 1250.

L'église fortifiée de Prejmer est inscrite depuis 1993 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. C'est un vrai petit bijou qui se découvre à peine passée l'entrée. Elle est au centre d'un modeste petit village et derrière ses murs on ne devine pas combien ce lieu est précieux. Ce fut une très belle découverte.

Si vous ne visitez qu'une seule église fortifiée en Roumanie, il faut que ce soit celle-ci. Je ne souhaite pas vous détailler ce que vous verrez car il doit y avoir une forme de surprise en arrivant dans ce site unique au monde. Vous serez à coup sur surpris, étonné, fasciné par ce site. Allez y !!!
