The falls of the Karera river are hidden in a forest gallery that hosts large trees to the heights spread up to tens of meters high. They are sterculias (Sterculia tragacantha), Newtonia buchananii or tree of Africa (Spathodea campanulata), which are also found in the reserve of Kigwena, and of Cordia africana, the tree "which makes the drums speak". All around is a tree savanna with other dominant species, including the Parinari curatellifolia (umunazi), which yields excellent jam fruits.Birds and monkeys (cercopithèques) live in the gallery that you travel for a few hundred metres before joining the falls itself. They actually form a system of cascades that we go through sometimes abrupt paths (3 main falls). We can refresh ourselves by the droplets, and we meet people who are washing here. If we want to see all the falls, we must be aware that the walk is rather difficult, even with the sticks lent by the guards.
