Unlike tangible cultural heritage, intangible heritage is "living", practiced and transmitted by mankind throughout history. The NIHC is the first institution in Korea charged with safeguarding it. Its roles include transmitting this heritage through research, archiving, exhibitions, performances and educational programs.
