A landscaped park, known as one of the most beautiful in Seoul, where nobles used to come in summer, ideal for strolling and picnicking.

This park was built between 1993 and 1997 on a valley in Namsan where a stream once flowed and where blue cranes used to come in summer, hence its name Cheonghak-dong, the "blue crane district". This area, also known as "fairyland", was reputed to be one of the 5 most beautiful in Seoul, and nobles used to come here in summer to rest and compose poems in the Cheon-ugak pavilion. In an attempt to restore its former beauty, this district has been redeveloped. Although still a far cry from what it once was, it's not a bad place to take a stroll.

The Folk Village is home to 5 large traditional Joseon houses, moved here from different parts of Seoul and restored for public viewing. They are quite simply magnificent, both simple and elegant. Of these, only one can be visited, for preservation reasons. You'll also find a traditional garden, a pavilion, tea rooms... enough to escape modern life for a few moments. A place not to be missed! To make the experience even more authentic, you can take part in a variety of activities: traditional games, paper folding(hanji)....Folk performances are also given.

Last but not least, there's a buried time capsule containing 600 objects representing daily life in Seoul, which will be opened on the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Seoul on November 29, 2394. Mark your calendars!
