The gate was equipped with a semicircular defense system that required two turns to enter the city.
This "gate of uplifting benevolence" is also known as Dongdaemun Gate. Originally built in 1398, it was rebuilt in 1869 and restored after the war. It is reminiscent of the gates of the Suwon fortress, with a semi-circular defense system that obliged those using it to turn twice before entering the city, allowing easy control of passage. You can't get inside, but you can admire it from the outside.

Porte imposante au milieu d'un grand carrefour routier à l'est du centre-ville. Point d'étape pour commencer à monter le chemin des fortifications du nord de Séoul (beau point de vue sur la porte et le quartier moderne alentour) ou se diriger vers les quartiers commerciaux.

Belle porte qui fait partie des anciens vestiges du passé. C'est en fait le trésor N°1 (ils sont numérotés). Elle est tout à côté du marché Dongdaemun et se trouve proche du départ d'une belle balade sur les remparts de Séoul.
