SEODAEMUN PRISON AND MUSEUM
Prison with historic buildings preserved in memory of the Japanese incarceration of Korean patriots.
Many Korean patriots were imprisoned, tortured and executed there by the Japanese, including Yu Gwan-sun, the Korean "Joan of Arc". When a new prison was built in 1987, only the historic buildings were kept in their original state in memory of those dark days. However, it should not be forgotten that this prison was used until then as a detention camp under military dictators and that former President Kim Dae-jung was one of its hosts.
