It is actually one of the oldest theatres in Seoul, built in 1934 during the Japanese occupation. It still preserves the baroque style, especially in its exterior. Until the 1970s it was one of the busiest theatres in the whole of South Korea. But following the construction of the Korean National Theatre in 1975, the Myeongdong Theatre ceased its artistic activity and was rented out. The theatre mainly programmes plays of drama, dance and music.

The troupe's famous and highly acclaimed shows take you on a meandering journey through the world of art and creativity. Mime, dance, theater, drawing... the artists on stage master them all. This troupe offers every evening to the spectators a show cleverly mixing martial arts and comedy. This small open-air amphitheatre has been hosting folk dance, music and martial arts groups since 1984 to promote the folk culture of south Korea to the younger generation and foreigners alike. These semi-professional and amateur groups come from all over the country. It is a very good opportunity to attend a masked dance in Seoul (a show often on the programme) at a low cost, as in all other performances elsewhere. Good cultural plan, interesting and friendly.

This theater always offers a show that is worth the detour. Proof of this is that it has been a worldwide success for several years now. Four cooks play all the instruments available in their kitchen and improvise a delirious concert between the drums of the Bronx and the traditional samulnori. The original, rhythmic, amusing show, a bit clownish but entertaining, will really please the whole family.
