Sacred lake, the largest in Bali, dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu and located at an altitude of 1,000 m in the Batur caldera at Pelelokan.
Located at an altitude of 1,000 m, it is the largest lake on the island. Sacred, it would be the home of a female deity, Dewi Danu. Goddess of abundance, she can be seen as the symbol of the nourishing waters of the lake, the origin of the irrigation of the rice fields in the center and east of the island. From Penelokan, a small road goes down to the east, towards the villages surrounding the lake. The road only serves the south and west, while the eastern shore can only be reached by boat. Lake Batur was formed in the Batur caldera and is fed by a dozen springs.
