SACRED MONKEY FOREST
A pleasant forest, home to macaques, Rangda witch sculptures and a temple, located near the town center.
If there is a place in Ubud and its surroundings not to be missed and that we recommend, it is certainly this one that will delight both children and adults! The forest, which belongs to the village of Padantegal, looks more like a wood trimmed by urbanization, although it still has very old banyan trees whose thick vines touch the ground and it is an enclave of coolness two minutes from downtown Ubud. Many sculptures representing Rangda witches are present at the entrance of the sanctuary, some of which devour children. This temple, Pura Dalem Agung, is dedicated to evil spirits and you can not enter, only glimpse it in the forest. This same forest which shelters an abundant community of gray macaques. Put in your bag your glasses, camera, cell phone and anything that sticks out. Be careful, they can be a bit aggressive, so don't try to touch them and don't look them straight in the eyes. We don't give them food either! We can however take a selfie with them in company of a "Monkey Master". Count in this case, about 50k Rp. The short walk in the woods allows to admire the beautiful Hindu sculptures on stone and to visit the temple Pura Dalem Agung Padang Tegal. Waiting for confirmation: a traditional dance show should soon be held on Sunday in the amphitheater at 11am or 4pm, for 100k Rp.
