With the help of posters, 3,200 objects, but also photos and videos, this educational museum retraces the history of a divided Germany after 1945, then that of two countries that met one day in November 1989 and finally united their destiny officially one year later, on 3 October 1990. The Forum for Contemporary History in Leipzig is now a major institution in reunited Germany. This space, located in the heart of the metropolis, devotes a large part of its history to the GDR, from its foundation in October 1949 until its collapse 40 years later. The exhibition presents a synthesis of the official discourse of the time, in a critical or partisan way. In addition, the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum hosts three temporary exhibitions each year on current social themes or more recent history. It also has the specificity of approaching history with a great "H" in all its aspects: political, ideological, event-driven, but also in the context of material and daily life, asking central questions: what composed the lives of the GDR and GDR citizens, what separated them, what unified them, and what has become so different today? During your visit to this museum, you will be able to understand the ideological issues of the GDR leaders, take a seat at the wheel of a Trabant, or immerse yourself in the biographies and trajectories of various East German citizens
