It is majestic, and all the more so when you come to the city centre from the Südvorstadt or from the west. With its gigantic dimensions, the new town hall is one of the representatives of Leipzig's "monumental maximalism". Built in 1905 by a booming merchant bourgeoisie, the Neues Rathaus has been home to the headquarters of the local municipality for 115 years. This stone castle, in a neomedieval style, was designed by the German architect Hugo Licht. He imposes it by his charismatic style. It covers 10,000 square metres and has some 600 rooms. Its tower culminates at 114 meters high. You can visit this building in part, enter it to contemplate the hall and stairs, and why not to carry out an administrative procedure.
