AUERBACHS KELLER
Since 1438, there has been a reported wine cellar on site. The site is mythical! Between 1765 and 1768, when he was a student in Leipzig, the young Goethe spent many evenings there. Frescos, executed in 1638, depicting the legendary magician and cosmologist Faust inspired him. In his work Faust, Goethe places the famous scene of the dispute with the student on these same premises. At the entrance, the statues represent Faust casting a spell on the students. Enjoy your visit to this excellent table and take a few steps into Mädler Passage, Leipzig's most famous. This one goes back to 1913. It was built on the same site as a building dating from 1530, which housed a market. Two restaurants coexist in the same space: a brasserie and a gourmet restaurant. Both offer a wide range of dishes, from traditional Saxon and German cuisine to various international influences. Reasonable prices and a good wine list.
