In the 400-year-old Jägerhof (Hunters' Court), there is a collection of Saxon folk art that is really worth a visit, especially if you are travelling with children. Founded in 1913 by Oskar Seyffert (1862-1940), professor at the Royal School of Decorative Arts, this museum brings together painted furniture, beautifully crafted ceramics, traditional costumes... and an admirable collection of puppets, a heritage of the Pirna region in Saxon Switzerland. The first floor, dedicated to traditional toys and Christmas decorations from the Erzgebirge mountains near Dresden, is set up in a playful and interactive way. By pressing a button, a miniature carousel from the 1950s is turned, wooden figurines representing miners at work are activated, a small train is operated, a mechanical theatre or circus is illuminated... English translations are available on the interactive screens. On the ground floor, in addition to surprising ceremonial objects, the highlight of the exhibition is the Passion Christi, a 19th century theatre of automatons, whose mechanical triptych describes the last days of Christ's life.
