The city of Mazandaran, the city, less modern than Rasht, retains a certain charm. Several houses typical of the region's construction and some mausoleums are in fact accessible. Sari is located kilometres from the Caspian coast and is also placed on the spectacular route of the railway line linking Tehran to Gorgan, a town neighbouring Turkmenistan. It is noted that two rivers, Le and Neka, cross the city. Historically, Ferdousi also described it as one of the most beautiful cities of Persia. But the successive looting of the Mongols in the th century and Tamerlane's armies in the th century considérablement the heritage of the city.
