BILSTEIN CASTLE
The Bilstein Castle was once a strong defender of the valley
From the top of its promontory, it watches over the village. Bilstein Castle was once an important defender of the valley. The mountain is separated from its walls by a deep ditch, and the building is only accessible via a wooden footbridge. Built of pink sandstone, the fort features a 12th-century square keep protected by a double wall. This was modified during the reign of the Württemberg family in the 14th century. The dungeon is entered through a magnificent ogive-shaped door. This fortified bastion affords a breathtaking view over the valley.
