MAKWACHA
Nicknamed the "village of women painters". Its particularity lies in the paintings of various motifs that adorn the outside walls of the huts. The tradition of this local matrilineal ethnic group (Lamba) is for women to express their talents through these wall decorations. This is done once a year in August, during a 3-day ritual in which the paintings are renewed with natural plasters, in a particularly effervescent atmosphere. The ritual has retained its authenticity, and the visit provides the village with a small injection of funds. It's not just a chance to appreciate the work of these women, but also to take part in a unique experience. During the rest of the year, it's also possible to visit the village and admire the frescoes. As well as attending folk music and dance performances, you can buy food products and handicrafts, including paintings testifying to the skills of these women artists.
