Or "big market". The first infrastructure was built in 1943. In early 1970, Mobutu had the 35,000 m² concrete structure built. Since then, the market has grown steadily, becoming a district in its own right. It's a cheerful, colorful mess, with an indescribable hubbub and a good-natured atmosphere. You'll find everything here: fruit, vegetables, butchers, fishmongers, ready-made meals... as well as hardware, textiles, jewelry and more. An experience best enjoyed accompanied, as there's no shortage of petty theft.
